The best places for Thanksgiving food in London
It's time to finally find out just what 'candied yams' are, thanks to the Just Eat for Business foodie guide to Thanksgiving
Now, you probably learned all your Thanksgiving knowledge from a decade worth of Friends episodes? Right?
Of course you did. We all did on this side of the pond. But to help you out this year - we're making it easier than ever to give thanks (stuff your face) by telling you the best restaurants for Thanksgiving food in London.
So whether you're a born-and-bred American or you just fancy some premature turkey and to finally find out what the hell ‘candied yams’ are, here are all the places in London you need to visit this Thanksgiving, brought to you by theJust Eat for Business team.
Splash out at Balthazar
Hey, for a nation that doesn’t do anything by halves, it’s important to go all out when you’re saying ‘thanks’, okay? In New York, Balthazar is the much-referenced French-style Bistro you’re likely to spot Robert De Niro, Elizabeth Taylor and Tina Turner during the same lunch service, and in London, the scene is just as opulent.
For Thanksgiving at its Covent Garden outpost, think gingerbread fizz to begin, winter kale salad, turkey with corn fritters, butternut squash gratin and, of course, pumpkin pie. It might be a bit of a splash out budget-wise, but if you’re looking for an early Christmas party for a small team, it could be just the ticket.
Don't you (forget about Thanksgiving at The Breakfast Club)
The Breakfast Club has been doing a brisk trade in Thanksgiving dinners for Londoners these past few years, so you know they’ll have that stuffing recipe down. Normal service at this joint focuses on updated diner food, with breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros and some way-high pancake stacks.
So for Thanksgiving, their head chef Matt has put together a three course meal under £30 that’s hard to resist. We’re talking warm jalapeño and coriander cornbread for starters and bacon and beer roasted Norfolk turkey, alongside all the more traditional trimmings, of course.
Gobble 'til you wobble at Red Rooster
Another export from New York, this is Red Rooster's second Thanksgiving in London since the Harlem concept came to Shoreditch earlier this year. And it's safe to say, they're going big.
Expect a range of their most popular starters: cornbread, devilled eggs and Helga’s meatballs followed by (more!) roast turkey, with a rich cornbread stuffing and cranberry sauce alongside all the usual trimmings. And as if that wasn't enough, make sure you save room for a cinnamon-baked apple pie and Red Rooster's very own take on a pumpkin spice espresso martini. Yes, it's a thing.
Get a pizza of Thanksgiving at Bunga Bunga
Who said you can't have pizza for Thanksgiving? Certainly not us - and because they're never one to miss a party, Bunga Bunga in Battersea are celebrating Thanksgiving with an American-Italian menu, a live rock band, and plenty of cocktails.
With four courses for £27, including a Thanksgiving pizza topped with fior di latte mozzarella, roast turkey, caramelised onion and pancetta all drizzled with a Jack Daniels BBQ glaze, this is a Thanksgiving-themed extravaganza you simply can't miss.
Book ahead for a smoky Thanksgiving at Bodean's
This small BBQ restaurant chain is the perfect pit stop for those on a budget but still craving their traditional Thanksgiving dinner. With a meal that includes a choice of clam chowder, Caesar salad and a quesadilla (with a chicken, pulled pork or veggie filling) to start, followed by traditional turkey, then pumpkin or key lime pie for pud.
After that lot, you’ll be as stuffed as a Thanksgiving turkey.
