Did you know that it takes anywhere from 16 days to 36 weeks to form a new habit? On average, it takes a couple of months, but between the seemingly 24/7 lives we lead and the constant grabs at our attention, keeping up with a healthy habit can seem almost impossible.

Although it seems tempting to start with a long list of new goals that you want to smash through all at once, why not try starting with a few simple healthy habits that can be easily fitted into your daily routine?

If you’re on the lookout for some inspiration for New Year’s Resolutions ahead of 2022, look no further! We’ve got 5 suggestions for healthy habits you can follow in 2022 that should fit around your current lifestyle easily.

Learn something new

Expanding your skillset, your mind, or simply being curious about the world is a great habit to build. Research shows that learning something new strengthens the connection between your brain cells, in turn helping to improve cognitive functions like concentration levels, attention to detail, memory recall and problem solving. Whatever your interest, take this as a sign to go for it and learn something new!

Have less screen time

We know that between the world of hybrid working, commuting and settling down in front of the TV, screens feature heavily in our day-to-day lives. Of course, there’s a world of content out there, but limiting how much time you spend on screens (especially outside of work) can help boost your mood, connect better with those closest to you and reduce unnecessary eye strain and blue-light stimulation. Here are a few useful tips on how to reduce screen time.

Eat more plant-based meals

There are plenty of benefits in including more vegetarian and plant-based meals in your diet. That’s not to say you have to go hell for leather and become a full blown vegan overnight, though. Simply replacing one or two meals a week with a vegetarian option is a great place to start! Not to mention that eating plant based meals come with great environmental and health benefits too, including fighting climate change and a reduced risk of heart disease.

We’ve got a list of some of our favourite vegan and vegetarian options here, if you need some inspo.

Get more fresh air

Getting outside is really important, especially in Winter when those few precious daylight hours might even bring some sunshine. Getting out for a quick walk can help you to refocus and enjoy a change of scenery away from work. If you’re tied to your desk and literally *cannot* step away, don’t forget to follow the 20-20-20 rule and grab a glass of water every now and then!

Get enough sleep

It’s SO easy to think “I’ll just watch one more episode” or “I’ll just read another chapter” - but do you ever thank yourself when the alarm goes off the next morning? Getting enough sleep is key for reducing stress, thinking more clearly and generally living a healthier lifestyle. Our top tips: Get rid of the screens at least half an hour before bed, create a comfortable sleeping environment and try and go to bed around the same time each night.
