Veganuary: fad or future? | Just Eat for Business

Veganism has gained popularity over the past few years. This January alone, over half a million people have signed up to participate in Veganuary. But is it just a short-term trend or something more significant? Find out in our 2021 report!

In our 2021 Veganuary report, we look into the rise of veganism, why people choose to give up meat and animal products, as well as some of the most searched-for plant-based foods. Read on to find out whether Veganuary is just a trend, or something much more long-term.

It shows that the number of people that have taken the pledge has grown year on year, with over 400,000 people in 2020. 38% of people are going vegan to improve personal health, while 37% want to spare animals from suffering. 18% go vegan for the environmental impact. At City Pantry, we've also seen an upwards trend of vegan preferences in our corporate clients. The number of vegan orders rose from 29% in 2018 to 40% in 2019, and dipped to 33% in 2020. January is the most popular month for searches of vegan menu items, and people are searching for things like 'vegan catering', 'vegan pizza', and 'vegan sandwich platters'. 59% of people who participated in Veganuary during 2020 stayed vegan for the whole month of January, but 77% of people who didn't complete the whole month said they'd try veganism again.
